London

Friday, May 30th, 2008

London is mad. People are really great, had a few weird ones, but to be expected. One guy was queing for the atm about 3 metres away and got quite angry when I jumped in front (he was half way across the room, lol), he even managed to tell Alan off and he wasn’t even in line. I said to him, “I’m so sorry”, in the most long-winded and polite tone I could muster, the guys to his side pissed themselves laughing and the guy felt like a bit of a twat, it was really hilarious.

Yesterday I walked down to Lewisham (what can only be described as eclectic, lots of African and Nigerian restaurants), then around the top of Greenwich (streets very similar to Christchurch, NZ) and down to the Heritage Listed area, which was really quite beautiful, even the grass was something else (mind the pun, lawn people). After getting a map I decided to stop for a bite to eat and a beer (cost $4.49p ~$9 AUD) so not that bad really, but the burger patty was more than ordinary, the chips, salsa and rest made up for it tho. I was going to go back and take pics, but rain looked to be on the way so I got the light rail back to Lewisham and walked back to Al’s place as the light rain fell. I plan on returning on a nice day and getting some pics.

The day before was fairly grey as evidenced by the pictures below and I visted the National Gallery and spent at least 3 hours walking around drooling at the collection, I’ve actually studied a number of paintings in there and it was amazing to see them in real life. The collection is amazing and the detail on the paintings was out of this world, my favouriste one was from an unknow artist and the detail was something I’ve never seen before, from 1200-1600 too, so very early. I enjoyed the map and audio guide system, total class act.

From there I walked around Scotland Yard, Big Ben and checked out the London Eye. I think I’ll do the Eye on a fine day and get some footage and pics. From there I went over to Picadilly Circus and walked around looking at all the well dressed people (total class), the amazing tailor shops and went through some sweet stores, the sweets were to die for and I avoided all purchases, which was really hard to do! I had McDonalds (classy I know) and that cost about $10AUD, which was fairly average, as was the food (to be expected), people LOVE McDonalds here, it’s weird, even worse than Thailand. Every Maccas is just packed with people - I’m yet to see the attraction!

The thing that constantly sticks out is the eclectic mix of people, languages and just how many people frequent the City of London, it’s simply amazing. The clear heirachy and different classes stick out the most and the rich really are quite swanky.

I think it would be quite fun to be a high rolling office suit in London, if only it weren’t for the work, full-time roles, the alcohol and the look-a-like part. I think doing a little business here some day will be quite fun and I’ve already lined up some meetings with local domainers and seo’s. Goal is to get some UK clients and live in Thailand for a bit earning some Uk Pound, then buy some property in Brisbane. But that said I’m more interested in my own stuff atm, next month I’m getting an additional $20AUD bonus per sign-up on Lotto for the month, so that should be a really nice little win-fall.

Last night we went out for dinner and drank heaps of pints. A guy from school was there, Andrew Socac, he lived in Mooloola (a tiny town next to Eudlo on the Sunshine Coast) and he looked so young it was scary, his posh English accent was also quite amusing, especially considering his roots. We met up with some other guys and gals they worked with and had an awesome Indian dinner and a lot of fun drinking and taking the piss out of each other. The sense of humour here is brilliant and it’s so refreshing to be able to give someone shit without having them take it seriously, was also quite fun to recieve my fair share as well :D :D

Hope you’re all enjoying yourselves, love to all :D Here are some pics, and no they aren’t black and white, this is London summertime - lol.

These were taken in the last few hours before leaving Bangkok. The shots of kids are beggars on the street that have taken in their parents footsteps, they are still cute tho :D

Ayutthaya Pictures

Ayutthaya is the old capital of Thailand, the people are lovely and the temples were destroyed by a Burmese invasion. Some of the sights are eery, but here are some of the sights.
