Automating the mundane tasks that waist your playtime

Wednesday, February 6th, 2008

Time is more important than money and always will be. Use all of your time wisely and you will make more money faster.

Truth is most of us could automate a large portion of the work we do using smart techniques. Things like hiring a programmer to build you scripts to automate manual tasks. Everything from domain registration, keyword research, competitive analysis, link building research, dB driven websites, information retreval, and so much more.

If you have ever had a good peak behind the scenes of an experienced SEO or Domainer’s network(s) and the techniques used to build, deploy and market - you will soon see why they make money. The wealthiest I know only focus on the metrics that make money. Sounds boring but they understand how much work is required to achieve their goals and choose their battles wisely. Less effort = more money, work hard, allowing you to scale up harder and faster.

Making money online is not that hard when you have automated the mundane. You have far more time to play and *test*!

I eliminate what I consider mundane, I only really enjoy the SEO (includes 2.0) and Domains. Following web development is cool too, but it will be a while until I move into large scale development. The current climate is just a little too mixed and needs to settle/consolidate a little.

Chances are something new is on it’s way as well, something powerful that might change the way we all do business online (yep you read it here first!).

I think once the social media area cools a little and more standards are implemented - as well as (x)html5 I will consider starting large scale development. I really think now is the best time to be acquiring land to build your dreams upon. Development is only getting cheaper/better and Web users are only growing in numbers.

Domain Names are a moment in time - each day your dreams are slipping away, the best domains are not for sale! Best is a relative term and in constant flux, find the buffer and get in while you can, or miss out.

Automating the areas between domaining and seo is very fun too, but I’m not giving anything away here ;-)

Future Communities: Locavores & Locavortals

Monday, January 28th, 2008

From Wikipedia:

A locavore is someone who eats food grown or produced locally or within a certain radius such as 50, 100, or 150 miles. The locavore movement encourages consumers to buy from farmers’ markets or even to produce their own food, with the argument that fresh, local products are more nutritious and taste better. Local grown food is an environmentally friendly means of obtaining food, since supermarkets that import their food use more fossil fuels and non-renewable resources.

Jessica Prentice coined the word locavore & started the site locavores.com

In the future as community goes full cycle and concepts such as neighbourhoods come back into vouge, the Internet will play a very important role in ‘connecting the dots’. Local suburb domains will act as portals for locals and locavores alike to interact and orgainse things. We would even see specific locavore directories that would essentially be Locavortals (a term coined by me, just then).

Why know’s where we will be going with this, but one thing is for sure the Internet will make life a whole lot more interesting as it advances. Johnny be good :D

Brisbane Suburbs Project

Brisbane City

This post will most likely be updated as I continue research and building the sites out. Feel free to use any ideas I have on your own sites and if you want to credit me for the ideas, all the better (but at least let me know so I can see what people are doing at a local level).I have managed to acquire about 13 Brisbane suburb domains, mostly in the inner city. My plans were to create niche portals on each one by aggregating common data into some pages and promoting them via Search and mail out for potential featured listings and pre-sell pages.

I have started to develop out one suburb slowly just to see where the filters take effect in the local serps. My plan was to softly link them into the serps via relevant pages on local domains I own. From there I can crosslink all the suburb domains, work out branded name for the network.

I also plan to redevelop the initial concept and;
- Work out design template and dB set-up/CMS required.
- Aggregate content instread of researching each suburb noting common content and noting all links.

- List out all good revenue producing niches, for affiliate, for J/V’s, for Directory listings.
- Find local real estate partners for each area and give the simple plug-in to add properties to their local suburb.com.au

- Start large dB of common Brisbane content
- History
- Pictures
- Business Listings
- Seek partners

- Soft launch each site with varied content, keep look and feel consistent.

Promotional Ideas

- Approach local council for links/content once started and running with a good amount of unique visitors
- Approach local businesses with websites for backlinks - use series of nice css link images :D
